CalendarWhether you want to review past food choices or plan future meals, you can easily move through the days using your nutrition log calendar. Click on the day you are interested in and click the "change date" box. If you select a day that has not been activated, you will be prompted to activate the day. Searchingi) Using keywords Just enter one or more keywords in the "SEARCH FOR FOOD" box, then click "search". You may refer to the following list of frequently misspelled words:
ii) Using categories to narrow your search You can search through all foods or you can narrow your search by also selecting a category. Then click "search". nutrition log >> enter keyword(s) >> select a category (optional) >> click search iii) Browsing categories You can browse food categories by selecting a category and leaving the keyword box empty. nutrition log >> select a category >> click search Search Resultsi) Add foods to your daily nutrition log From the search results page, you can add a food to your daily log by clicking the "add to log" link next to your selected food. ii) Narrowing your search results When receiving a large number of search results, you can move through the results pages by clicking on the page links listed at the bottom of the search results. You can also narrow your results by performing another search with more keywords or by also selecting a category. nutrition log >> search for food >> add to log Portionsi) Portion size After selecting a food and choosing to "add to log", you select from a drop down list the portion size. The options available to you will differ depending on the food item chosen. For example, if you chose "cheese, cheddar" you will have the option to select 1 cup diced, 1 cubic inch, 1 slice, etc. Select the portion size closest to the smallest suitable. For example, if you chose "cheese, cheddar", and you ate 3 slices, choose "1 slice". ii) # of portions Next, type in the number of portions you had. For example, if you had 3 slices of cheddar cheese, you enter "3". For some foods, it may be appropriate to select a portion smaller than 1 when 1 cup is the most suitable portion size option, such as a 1/2 cup of milk. Fractional portions should be entered using a decimal place:

Once a food is in your personal foods, you can quickly add it to your daily log. i) Adding foods to your personal foods list Adding foods to your personal foods list is easy. Just search for a food, then click on the "add to personal foods" link on the database search results page and it will be included in your list of personal foods. nutrition log >> search for food >> add to personal foods ii) Including a personal food in your daily log To include a personal food in your daily log just click the "personal foods " link in the upper navigation area. From here you can click the "add to nutrition log". You can also edit a personal food description or delete it from your personal foods list altogether. You can also create your own food item in your personal foods. nutrition log >> add from personal foods >> add iii) Creating Foods With the wealth of food choices available today, you may need to include a food in your daily log that is not in the USDA database. That's when you create a food. Click on the "personal foods " link and you will be taken to a page where you can select "create a new food" in your personal food list. Enter as many details as you can. nutrition log >> personal foods >> create a food Check Your Food Numbersi) Daily Nutrition Log Your daily nutrition log shows totals for several food parameters, helping to ensure you can maintain a healthy diet. And they are color-coded by parameter category to make it even easier to read! Check your vitamin totals by looking at the brown colored columns and your minerals by looking at the green colored columns. nutrition log ii) Graphing Your Food Numbers Graphing your food numbers is an easy way to easily visualize your results. You can graph your:
Just click on the "graphs" link in the upper navigation area. Then you can choose the food parameter you are interested in by selecting it from the drop down menu. Next, chose the start and end dates for the period of time you want to graph. You may want your graph to summarize results for a few days, a week or even two weeks. nutrition log >> graphs >> select food parameter >> select start date >> select end date >> click submit |
